Many women long for bigger lips. The voluptuous, plump, gorgeous lips that seem to be all the rage can be attained with dermal filler lip injections. This nonsurgical, relatively painless cosmetic procedure can provide a dramatic enhancement for your pout. The professional staff at Body+Beauty Lab in Philadelphia, PA, have provided some do’s and don'ts for you to consider before moving forward with your lip enhancement. Your happiness with the results depends on considering these items beforehand so you can enjoy your new, fantastically enhanced lips.

DO pick the right place for your fillers

DO figure out how big you want your lips

Bigger lips do not always mean better. The first step in this process is to schedule a consultation. During this time, one of our skilled and highly trained injectors will devise a plan for just the right amount of filler needed to obtain results you will love. Your lips should appear plumped while at the same time, natural-looking. Fillers last about six months, or even longer in some cases, so determining the right size for your face is essential. Once you have gotten used to your fuller lips, you may wish to go larger the next time around. Whatever you choose, the expert staff at Body+Beauty Lab is ready to assist you.

DO research the different types of fillers

Our Philadelphia, PA, medical spa offers patients several different dermal filler choices to assist in the battle against the aging process. The most common dermal fillers used for lip enhancements are Juvéderm® Ultra XC or Juvéderm Volbella® XC. This hyaluronic acid-based filler is a miracle worker at restoring volume to the injected area by increasing your natural levels of collagen. The results are lips that appear smooth, plump, and natural-looking. Whether you want a slight enhancement or a more significant change, Juvéderm usually does the trick.

DON'T take blood-thinning medications

It is not uncommon for patients to bruise or bleed following their lip injection treatment. Body+Beauty Lab recommends the use of arnica for any temporary discomfort. Arnica is natural pain relief that may be taken either orally or topically to reduce bruising and inflammation. Over-the-counter pain medications such as Advil®, Motrin®, Aleve®, or ibuprofen should be avoided for approximately one week following treatment. These anti-inflammatory medications could impede your healing process. The good news is than any side effects from your injections will only be temporary and should be gone within a week.

DON’T exercise right away

Philadelphia-area patients who undergo dermal lip fillers should take about 24 hours off from the gym. The idea is to avoid any activity that could potentially increase blood flow to your face. Activities like massages, facials, or your regular yoga practice should all take a time-out for about a day, so you do not increase the swelling around the injected areas. It is important to note that for the first 24 – 48 hours, there will be some redness and swelling, so you may want to plan accordingly.

DON’T think lip fillers are permanent

Remember, lip fillers do not last forever. The metabolization rate of the ingredients in lip fillers is different for everyone, so it can be hard to determine precisely how long they will last, but most fillers last anywhere from six months to one year. Patients often love their new, fuller lips, and it is very common for patients to return each year for touch-up injections. Updates can keep your lips looking full, fresh, and shapely year-round. Most of our patients look forward to returning to our Philadelphia, PA, medical spa when it is time to plump up again.
