Let’s Talk Platelet Rich Fibrin
by Medical Injector Naomi Hur MSN, CRNP

Platelet rich fibrin is an autologous platelet-derived preparation that initially emerged in a medical setting to improve healing outcomes in the post-surgical setting. We now know that not only does it improve healing outcomes but there are many beneficial aesthetic indications.

This “liquid gold” has gained popularity amongst aesthetic treatments due to its ability to release growth factors and stimulate stem cells which improve collagen and elastin in the skin.

By using PRF in an injectable setting you can see an improvement of skin surface spots, decrease in pore size, promote hair growth, decrease hyperpigmentation, improvement of acne scarring, decrease hollowing from volume loss and improve skin texture.

This treatment is recommended in an initial series of 3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart to promote long term benefits of the treatment which can be seen 3-4 months after the first initial treatment and lasting 6-12 months after the last treatment. The continued treatments after the first 3 are catered towards an individual based treatment plan.

PRF based treatments are an ideal maintenance treatment with good results for those looking for natural options. The best part about this treatment coming from a mom of 3 is that it is completely safe while pregnant and breastfeeding since it is a natural treatment from your body’s own platelets!
